Choirs at Mancroft

Choristerships
If your child enjoys singing, or appears to respond well to music, have you considered Choristerships? St Peter Mancroft offers Choristerships to boys and girls aged seven and over.
Musical potential is looked for in prospective choristers. There is no need for interested children to have any experience of singing in choirs.
Being a chorister is highly rewarding. In addition to the musical benefits - learning to read music, singing with others, and performing a wide repertoire of music - the choristers gain from the sense of role and routine, and from working as part of a team.
Unlike many children's activities, there is no charge for being a Chorister at St Peter Mancroft. In fact in recognition of their commitment, Choristers receive a small bursary, enjoy a variety of subsidised social activities, and can apply for financial assistance with learning an instrument.
Girls' Choir
At St Peter Mancroft we have a choir specifically for young women (15-25), which sings a large variety of mostly sacred repertoire, to a high standard. The choir rehearses weekly and sings for a service at St Peter’s usually every other Sunday. The choir also gives concerts, sings at weddings and performs elsewhere in the region by invitation.
Praise for the choir
“One of the best young choirs I have heard in recent years - performances are a delight.” - Professor Peter Aston, composer
Choral Scholarships
The St Peter Mancroft Choral Scholarships give the opportunity for young singers to develop their singing skills and perform a wide repertoire of sacred music in a wonderful setting. Twelve Scholarships are offered to those aged twenty-five and under, each to the value of £500 per annum. The Choral Scholars rehearse weekly and sing services on most Sundays during term, and for various special services. The Choral Scholars also give concerts and have been broadcast live by the BBC on local radio.
For the Summer Term 2010 we have a tenor vacancy, and we welcome interest in all parts for forthcoming academic years.
St Peter’s Singers
The Church also has a small mixed-voice adult chamber choir, St Peter’s Singers, which rehearses once a week and sings for a service usually once a month. The choir joins forces with the Choral Scholars and Girls’ Choir from time to time, which enables performance of a wider repertoire.
Organ Scholarships
St Peter’s offers up to three Organ Scholarships to enable enthusiastic young organists to work as part of a thriving music department. Organ Scholars receive organ tuition, and have the opportunity to gain experience at leading hymns, accompanying choirs and performing voluntaries.
