The flood continued for forty days on the earth; and the waters increased, and bore up the ark, and it rose high above the earth. The waters swelled and increased greatly on the earth; and the ark floated on the face of the waters.

Genesis 7:17,18

Many ancient cultures have mythologies telling of a great flood.  The story of Noah and the Ark is familiar from childhood stories.  It tells of how a family used their skills and abilities to preserve the life of many species of animal.

Our recent experiences in the UK have brought home the danger posed by rising sea levels and the extreme weather events that have brought flooding to many parts of the country.  It is now past time to call on our governments and corporations to use every tool of human ingenuity and intelligence to address the dangers posed by our changing climate so that we might preserve the earth in all its beauty and diversity.
